Online Tool Launched by Lloydspharmacy
Lloydspharmacy has launched an online tool that enables employees to analyse their health risks and make an estimate of the number of employees who are addicted to alcohol, suffer from depression or have ailments that are sexually transmitted in their own workplace.
The company has created the Chances Are… Calculator, which has been developed to encourage debate and discussion, and to provide relevant and more realistic data on health risks for workplaces in the
Governance and Pharmacy Relations Director of Lloydspharmacy, Andy Murdock, said in this regard that national statistics are not likely to affect people as greatly as office statistics will.
Murdock cited an example by saying that if 15% of the British population is likely to be afflicted with diabetes, people will not be much alarmed by the news. However, if eight of the 50 employees in an office are likely to develop diabetes, and if ten employees are prone to suffering from erectile dysfunction in later years, then people working in that office would not ignore these statistics. This is the main purpose behind the introduction of the online tool, said Murdock.
Murdock believes that the tool will be quite popular at workplaces. It will encourage serious discussion about health and make people more conscious about their health risks. It will also instruct people on how to avoid ailments that are lifestyle related.
The calculator uses inputs like what kind of office the employee works in and the male-female ratio of workers in the office. It also takes into account the age profile of the employees. Then, by using its database, the calculator makes an estimate of the number of employees who might possibly suffer from ailments in that workplace.
