With practically nothing, but a caring and loving heart, she accepted the kid (Anup) and brought him up along with her own kids. This was the beginning of Divine Children’s Home (DCH), a warm and loving sanctuary for destitute children at Trivandrum.

At present, Alice Thomas has spread her wings of love to around 30 kids housed at DCH. With a mission to respect and value the dignity of human life, DCH provides shelter, food and education to destitute children without any discrimination whatsoever. The children, neglected by all and sundry, consider themselves to be a part of an extended family.

Many of the kids’ parents are serving long time in the Central Jail. These kids, whom the society forces into the path of ignominy, and then treats as outcasts, are adopted by DCH and raised in homely atmosphere to grow up as responsible citizens of the society. Children, who could have become a bane to the society without proper upbringing and emotional support, have been given a new direction in life by Alice Thomas. What she has done for destitute kids is not something confined to them alone; it encompasses the whole society we all are part of!!!

I know I am not very old, only 33, but in my life I have come to find that what is important, is not what all consider to be. I was raised in a good and loving home, but it took life to teach me that kindness and caring rule over power and greed, that it is better to save than to destroy, that revenge will only bring sorrow and regret, and forgiveness can free your very soul.

Like most of us, I went threw life wondering why it was nothing good ever seemed to happen for me. I thought I had always tried to be a good person, so why did it seem like my life was so unfortunate? My first reaction was to get angry with God and blame him for all my problems, but when that did nothing to help the situation what I came to realize was this, all that goes wrong in the world can be attributed to man, not God, and although it would be easy for me to blame others or even God, ultimately I had no one to fault but myself. It was the choices I had made that had brought me down the path I was traveling. Even if it seemed some of the choices made, I thought, were for the right reasons. They were my choices, no one else’s.

The truth is usually hard to accept and for me it was no different. I went threw many ups and downs dealing with this and I still struggle on a daily basis with what life is all about and why we are here. But then I see my son, who is a wonderful and talented child or I get a chance to watch the sun set over the mountains, and the world no longer, even if for just a moment, seems so ugly and bad. I started to realize that it is the small things which usually go unnoticed each day that make life worth living.

I urge everyone to take a minute from time to time each day and just appreciate what you have, and transfer your focus from the bad things in your life to the great ones. We all will have our trying times while here on this earth and if we let it, the world, will really give us a hard run. So its up to each of us individually to not let the small, yet so very important treasures get away from us and go unnoticed. We must take the time to cherish the beauty around us, our loved ones, or even just showing some small act of kindness to another can help to make the difference in their horrible day. Go out and make your mark today because tomorrow may be too late. We all need to start paying attention to the things that really matter to us, because someday they will be the only things that ever did, only it will be too late.

Warts are small benign growths on the skin, caused by a variety of related, slow-acting viruses HPV (human papilloma virus). There are at least sixty known types of HPV. Warts may appear singly or in clusters. We will talk about three types of warts: Common warts, Plantar warts, and genital warts.

Common warts can be found anywhere on the body, but are most common on the hands, fingers elbows, forearms, knees, face, and the skin around the nails. Most often, they occur on skin that is expose to constant friction, trauma, or abrasion. They can also occur on the larynx (the voice box) and cause hoarseness. Common warts may be flat or raised, dry or moist, and have a rough and pitted surface that is either the same color as or slightly darker than the surrounding skin.

They can be as small as a pinhead or as large as small bean. Highly contagious, the virus that causes common warts is acquired through breaks in the skin. Common warts can spread if they picked, trimmed, bitten or touched, Warts on the face can spread as a result of shaving.

Common warts typically do not cause pain or itching.

Plantar warts occur on the sales of the feet and the underside of the toes. They are bumpy white growths that may resemble calluses, except that they can be tender to the touch and often bleed if the surface is trimmed. They also often have an identifiable hard center. Plantar warts do not tend to spread to other parts of the body.

Genital warts soft, moist growths found in and around the vagina, anus, penis, groin, and/or scrotum. In men, they can grow in the urethra as well. They are usually pink or red in color and resemble tiny heads of cauliflower. Genital warts most often occur in clusters, but they can appear singly as well. They are transmitted through vaginal, oral, or anal intercourse, and are highly contagious. Because the warts do not usually appear until three months or more after an individual becomes infected with the HPV that causes them, the virus can be spread before the carrier is even aware that he or she has it. Although genital warts are not cancerous, they appear to cause changes in the cervix that may be a precursor of cervical cancer.

An infant born to a mother with genital warts may contract the virus. If you have genital warts, you are not alone. Between the start of the “sexual revolution” in the sixties and the late eighties, reported occurrences of these warts increased tenfold. By 1990, one million cases a year were being reported in the United States alone.
